Mobile Robot

This is a multifaceted project that involves mechanics, electronics, computers and math! The goals are the following -

  • Learn to use the PIC line of microcontrollers.
  • Learn to interface with sensors such as gyros, rangefinders and thermometers.
  • Setup an embedded linux system with no moving parts and interface it using serial port to control DC motors and read input from sensors.
  • Build a mobile platform that will carry the computer, batteries and sensors.
  • Mount a USB camera on robot and allow remote control operation using 802.11 wireless networking.
  • Implement algorthms to allow for autonomous navigation.
